we are all keepers of earth

2024 · Community workshops and public artwork poster · The Hidden Gardens, Glasgow

Collective artwork made using pigment ground from the ash of the COP26 sacred fire.

A large fabric banner hung on a weathered brick wall in the gardens. Printed on it in black is the words 'we are all keepers of earth' above a great tree with spreading roots and branches, drawn in fine ink marks. Yellow flowers grow up in front of the wall, and a small interpretation plaque with a QR code is fixed to the brick beside it.

This artwork was made collectively with Glasgow community members. I facilitated three workshops exploring the legacy of conversations held in The Hidden Gardens during COP26.

We made pigments using ash collected from the sacred fire that was kept burning throughout COP26 by elders of indigenous peoples from across the American continent. They were part of the La Minga Indigena collective.

The poster is a collective call to action on biodiversity. Download the poster from The Hidden Gardens website.
